A Fool in Disguise

There's always something with  Newly wed Couples, I don't know if its the matching outfits,the well blended vitenges, the fact that  the whole community is anticipating for their first newborn  or it's simply because they look lovely together and they are young and fresh.

Well, Mike and Melinda are  all this. Call them The "Mike Melinda " or the "Melinda Mike" Either way they are this ambitious and gorgeous couple, what most of us would call the perfect couple.They would easily take the whole attention from a crowd. Young and stunning, rich and successful, happy and living it. They were easily recognisable, hence they were from the royal families in  Nairobi, the great rich famous families.

Melinda had just finished her studies in abroad and came back to kenya, already working when they met with Mike. This young, successful, curvy  African woman with long black curly African hair. A date or two, they were already clicking in well and two years later they were already engaged, got married after a while.  And in years they had Two fine kids, well raised, a happy family that we all adored.

Melinda was an inspiration to her friends how her marriage worked very well. They never had any fight with Mike, atleast once in a while she'd brag about it to her friends. Her best friend Salma had several rough relationships,from abuse to being cheated, so love was a cliche to her. But my beautiful Melissa always was like "Mike is always  busy at work, home or at his best friend's house." And Bryce, the best friend would visit over bring the kids gifts as a loving "uncle" would. On the other hand, Mike's mother always would make it a big deal about the two hanging around.

Little by little, as years went by, Mike would always go to party at Bryce's place . When it became too much Salma would bring it up that he might be cheating and Bryce was  covering it up. But love is blind, At times love is a scam, or perhaps, love is a zombie that sucks out your brain  without knowing. You never think straight, you never see the red flags that are all in the air that your friends would see without you even pouring out your heart to them about your " perfect marriage  problems."

Bryce's birthday party  was kicking in for the weekend, and they obviously couldn't miss it. They dropped the children at Mama mike's place to watch them for the night. Boozy, games and all sorts of fun....it's a grown ups party ofcourse, and who else can party like the late twenties when they meet after a long week of work..? Melinda got  drunk to an extent she had to  go to the balcony to get some fresh air. Karis, one of Mike's friend followed her. Karis had an eye on Melinda for a while, since they had started dating with Mike but Melinda never took him seriously knowing they were friends with her husband.
" A real man is what you need, look at you,a beautiful lady like you"  Rattled the drunk Karis. Melinda was also a bit tipsy so all she did  was laugh at his drunk ass. But truth be told, there's always a truth in every drunkard's words. Karis starts touching Melinda and forcing himself on her, his hands on her body. Till Melinda shouts at him and pushes him away, "am a married woman for heaven's sake" she whispered in low tones.But all Karis did was laugh loudly drunk to his worst, he didn't hesitate to respond as she was leaving. "Married to a Fargot.....?" Melinda turns and starts laughing at the drunk ass Karis " you're laughing but your husband is a Fargot always laying around with Bryce" It was in this words that Melinda started thinking straight. In her mind were thousands of thoughts. I think  this is the part that liqour kicks out and you sober up. " Is it the reason that Mama Mike  hated seeing Bryce and Mike together? Is it the reason she was even against him being invited  to the wedding? Is it why Mike is always at Bryce's place?" 
By the time all this questions were over, she was already downstairs, looking at Mike and Bryce as if they were murderers.  She points on Mike " Tell me it's a lie, tell me that you and Bryce don't have a thing." The whole crowd gasped , they tried to cover it up with  the fact she was drunk, but she already had some suggestive pics sent by Karis to her. Mike  had enough of the drama and he stood up to her  "You know what...., I only married you because of my mother, so she would leave me alone for once, I have more to get stressed off than your little drama .And by the way, you should get tested "

She got out breaking in tears, driving to the furthest place from them while drunk. All she wanted was to be away from those people. She couldn't go back to their house ,so she went to Mama mike's place. She received her well, like a daughter she was, gave her a cup of coffee that 3am early morning, as miserable as she looked. She had millions of questions, if she knew about Mike's situation, is it why the marriage was hurriedly prepared? But all she gave was the few words..  " Mike  was raped  when he was a child by our househelps, and from there things were never the same. I thought you'd Change him,but turns out  stones will always be stones, nothing can change them even after coating with paint." She weeped but nothing could be done .

Tears would Never undo the mistakes she lived, but is this how marriages are? Scary right? Did she even know Mike anymore? Will they still raise the children together?
